Really good action puzzle game. You push a big ball around the whole game to push switches and squash enemies. There's a bunch of special powerups your ball can get too, like electricity and low-gravity, which make for even more interesting puzzles.The graphics look great even today. And the atmosphere is top notch, playing this game made me feel like I was going on an Indiana Jones adventure.The story is mostly dictated through secret collectables. I couldn't find them all so I couldn't follow the story very well, but you'll still get the gist of it if you don't collect them.My one complaint is that It's kind of hard to see through the ball sometimes, but I got around this by keeping the ball behind me most of the time.Overall a great polished game. If you're interested in a first person game with an interesting mechanic then I recommend picking it up. The ball is a first person puzzle platformer, you manipulate a large sphere with a gravity gun to overcome puzzles. It’s definitely an interesting game with the designers creating interesting captivating puzzles for you to stumble through. Each puzzle usually stands on its own and doesn’t cross intersect with other puzzles. The freedom that the player is given, is a linear experience with the player usually presented with a choice of puzzles to progress through to do “X” and it's up to the player which puzzle you want to complete first. Overall I will recommend “The Ball” as its an interesting take on puzzle platformers, there were quite a few times while playing this game I thought ‘Oh hey that's neat’ as the game equips you with interesting interactions throughout the campaign. The game took about 5 hours to complete but that is not including the survival modes included with the base game which should add another 2-3hrs ontop of that. I hope for a sequel in the near future.. Decent graphics, decent puzzling, sort of a chintzy-feeling UI. I enjoyed the first campaign, which was a puzzler. From the 2nd campaign It turns arcadey, dodging fireballs and using a rolling ball to squash monsters, and at that point it lost my interest. But if that's sounds enjoyable to you, this is that.. If you enjoy puzzle adventure games in the vein of Portal, then you will really enjoy The Ball. Theres very little fighting and much of the action is focused around the exploits of what you can possibly do with the tumbling ball... And if you want a free DLC, the Portal inspired content that was included during the Potato hunt has some of the greatest new, free levels on Steam.. This game clearly tried to play off of the Portal "one mechanic for the whole game" idea. Except, thinking with Portals is more fun than thinking with a Ball. The game has some good puzzles, most of which can be figured out with some effort, but the mediocre story (told through an acceptable if not great narration) and levels which all have the same colour palette (I get it, it's underground, not a ton you can do with that) led to me only wanting to see what the next puzzle was. Couldn't care about anything else. Some technical issues like textures popping in and out during cutscenes (and rarely when playing) and an overuse of bloom (this is a game from 2010 after all) also muddy the experience.Overall, I'd say: play it if you really enjoy puzzle games. And occasionally being startled by zombies. Otherwise, it's a forgettable experience.. You might be an archeologist, not very swashbuckling one though. In the ruins below you find a gun that helps you control The Ball, you can either hit it with force or call it to you, magnet-like. I mentioned Portal and Talos Principle, both amazing games. Unfortunately The Ball is not on this level, it's not a bad game but it's also not a good one.The visuals don't matter much for me in a puzzle game, so despite it's rough look I really wanted to enjoy this game, but the puzzles are ok-ish at best. And then there are enemies, that you have to kill by rolling the ball over them. They are not problematic and even if they somehow manage to kill you the respawn point is usually nto far away, but they are annoying. And then there are boss fights. Yes, boss fights. And these vary from very annoying to even more annoying.
